Meet the Trainer
In 2018, I was in a bit of a rut with my job. I was going to the gym religiously before work every morning doing weight training and a friend at work said “why don’t you train to become a Personal Trainer?”
At the time when I signed up to do my Personal Trainer and Group Instructor course in 2018, I was doing it to increase my own knowledge to start with, not realising where the path would take me! When I qualified in August 2018, I decided the following month to start teaching some classes in the local hall in Ballydesmond. I had 9 people at that first class (some forced to attend!!), I worked the hell out of them and there started my journey to where I am today with SOS Fitness!
After that first class, I very soon learnt that not everyone comes to a fitness class to feel like vomiting at the end! I now make sure my classes are suited to all fitness levels and there is no competition in my class. The only person you are worried about is yourself. It is 40 minutes for you to spend time on YOU. My love of teaching fitness classes then started to evolve. I studied to become a Pilates Instructor in early 2019 and started to teach Pilates locally. I am currently studying for another Pilates qualification to improve my knowledge.
The Original of SOS classes! Sounds scary – it’s not, I promise! Bootcamp is a 40-minute class with a mix of some high intensity exercises, conditioning exercises and core work. What does that mean – basically it’s a mix of moving your body in every way it can! This class can be made suitable for all levels of fitness. You will need to bring an exercise mat with you for this class.
A 40 minute class designed to challenge all muscles. This class will be mainly strength focused. If you own a kettlebell, you can bring this to class with you. I also have kettlebells that I can provide you with. You will also need to bring an exercise mat with you. This is a strength based class and suitable for all fitness levels.
Circuits is a firm favourite when it comes to fitness classes! This class will incorporate the use of weights throughout the class as well as bodyweight and core exercises. There are 10 different exercise stations and you will switch between stations based on time. Equipment will be shared for this class. You just need to bring yourself and some water for this class!
By popular demand, boxfit has made its way onto the class schedule! In lockdown, I ran boxing classes online which were very popular. In this class, we will do choreographed routines to music. There are options for all fitness levels and you can take the class as your own pace. You will need an exercise mat for this class. This class is definitely the most fun class on the schedule!
Fitness For Older People
Fitness is not just for the 20 somethings! Exercise is important at all ages. This class will be lower intensity and suitable for older people who are looking to exercise. Weights will be used as well as bodyweight exercises and walking. You will need to bring an exercise mat with you for this class.
Mixed Level Pilates
A 50 minute class designed to provide a full body workout to lengthen and strengthen your muscles. This class is suitable for all levels and all exercises will be adapted to suit fitness levels. I first started with SOS by doing the Outdoor Bootcamp and I loved it! But when Lockdown started again I switched to the online classes, I thought that I wouldn’t enjoy them as much but I think they are brilliant! The classes that I find are the best for me are Boxing and Kettlebells which are tough and active but so beneficial. Siobhan is so professional and motivational even when she is killing us with squats and burpees!!! Thank you so much Siobhan for helping and encouraging me to enjoy exercise without it feeling like a chore
I started Siobhan’s classes the first week of November for the second lockdown. I did 3-4 classes a week up until Christmas and I noticed such a difference in my mood, my sleep, my weight and my fitness levels!! I have continued classes since coming back from Christmas and I look forward to them every week! Siobhan caters for all fitness levels and always brings fun to the classes! I started with SOS fitness at the end of summer 2020, attending the outdoor boot camps. I hadn’t exercised in a long time and my fitness level was very low. The classes were challenging but all exercises were adaptable to suit me. 6 months and 2 stone later I am attending 3-5 different online classes a week. They are making this lockdown so much easier and giving me something to look forward to every evening. The classes are suitable for every fitness level and great fun. I’d highly recommend them to anyone!
